About Us
We became interested in cockatiels we found
Ralph, rescued from a local pet store.
His previous owner
just dropped him off in a cage that was way to small for him.
We love animals and fell in love with Ralph from the start.
Once settled into his home, he fell in love with my fiancé, which
made me sad (so naturally I had to go out and find a bird that would love
me most).
Sunny bird, a Lutino cockatiel
was also rescued from a pet store. He was under weight and and we
soon learned, only about six weeks old
(and un-weaned). The pet store was selling unweaned birds to
anyone wanting. I bought him and took him straight to the
avian vet here in town and learned the difficult and dangerous task
of hand feeding.
After this experience my fiancé and I decided that enough was
enough and we would never buy another pet store bird, the stress was
too great on both of us. Ralph and Sunny made me fall in love with
cockatiels and we began to put together a flock with the help and
guidance of Tammy Kramer, a breeder in Northern Virginia.
We
now have 15 pairs in a wide variety of mutations, and breed them as a hobby.
My fiancé would go nuts if I kept all these baby birds. (he
says 15 pairs is my limit and for now I am willing to compromise and
say ok, maybe down the road I can keep some of the babies).
We
love animals and have three dogs, two cats and lots of fish as
well. Many of our friends call our house the ark etc etc. We get
lots of names, but our animals bring us lots of joy and happiness.
I am a full time RN at the UVA Medical Center. My fiancé is in wine
and beverage sales. My passion is my cockatiels. |
